Before I even begin with the baking of my cupcakes, I first decide on 3 things...
1. The flavour
2. The colour
3. The theme
These particular cupcakes are a mixture of 6x chocolate with hazelnuts, and 6x chocolate with ginger.
The theme in this case was 'a spring garden' and so the colours were already decided on because of the topic.
The butter cream is green and cream coloured to represent the 'grass/ground' and the flowers are a mix of spring colours... nice to know that it's almost here!
Once I know the answer to each of the above I can then bake with confidence knowing that my end result has already been decided upon.
I created these cupcakes for myself, however when I am designing cakes for clients it is still as important to be able to answer the 3 questions above.
I am teaching a 'cupcake master-class' on April 21st at Stevenage college from 10am - 2pm. If you think you would like to know more about how to create the perfect cupcake then why not enrol? follow this link http://www.nhc.ac.uk/default.aspx or give them a call.
