I was recently approached to make a 3 tier princess castle cake.
GULP.. this was going to be a challenge as I am completely self taught. I thought about it, planned it, and then began preparations for it by making my own gum paste towers and tiny pink roses.
I searched the internet to find out 'how' best to go about putting it all together, but couldn't find anything so I decided to document the way I did it. I hope my photos here give you some idea and help you to make your own princess cake a success!
Once dried, I then used royal icing to lay the 'grass' and ensure the towers were truly fixed.
I also used some glass tubes in the center of the sponge to help support the next tier of cake.
I then placed all tiers on the cake in the same way, and using a shell pattern sealed the joins.
The turrents were fixed with royal icing. As you can see the one at the back was a bit wonky!
This was day 2, and as you can see I have put onto the cake the rest of the towers, a name plate and two figures.
I did a name plate because I didn't want to spoil my hard work with some poor icing skills, however I had spelt her name wrong so had to remove it anyhow!
Here is the revised name 'edit'... not too bad!
To lift the whole thing and give it some detail I iced some climbing roses onto the towers, and added some heart shaped windows to give depth.
A sprinkle of glitter and it was complete!
If you have any comments on this then I would be pleased to hear them.
